How to file ITR for “Salaried Employees”

Introduction 

Filing of Income tax return ( ITR) obligation is mandatory for Salaried Employees in India which income exceeds the basic exemption limit.

Old slab rates are same as earlier years.

New tax regime:

Following slab rates applicable irrespective of age and residential status of assessee.

Income - Tax rates 

First 3 lakhs- Nil 

3-7 lakhs- 5%

7-10 laks-10%

10-12 lakhs- 15%

12-15 lakhs - 20%

15 above - 30%

๐Ÿ‘‰Why should Salaried Employees filed ITR.

  • Legal Compliance – Compulsory if income is more than ₹2.5 lakh (₹3 lakh for FY 2023-24 under new tax regime).
  • Claiming Tax Refunds – If more TDS is withheld, filing of ITR assists in availing a refund.
  • Financial Proof – ITR is proof of income for loans, visas, and credit card purposes.
  • Carry Forward Losses – Possible only if ITR is filed within time.
  • Avoid Penalties – Non-filing will result in penalties under Section 234F.

๐Ÿ‘‰Which ITR Form to Use

  • ITR-1 (Sahaj) – For income up to ₹50 lakh from salary, one house property, and others (excluding lottery/crypto).
  • ITR-2 – For taxpayers having capital gains, more than one house property, or foreign income.
๐Ÿ‘‰Step process of filling ITR for Salaried Employees -

Step -1: Documents required 
  • Form 16 (your employer will provide it)
  • Aadhaar Card
  • PAN Card
  • Bank Account details (account number + IFSC code)
  • Salary slips (optional)
  • Investment proofs (if claiming deductions: LIC, PPF, etc.)
  • Form 26AS / AIS (Tax credit statement)
๐Ÿ‘‰Step -2 : Login / Register on Income tax portal 
Visited site : https://www.incometax.gov.in
 
If your account has been already created on income tax portal then Direct login with ' User Id & Password '.

If your account is not created on income tax portal or you are going first time ITR filing then first create your account on income tax portal.
  
You may be created your account on income tax portal with following details:
 
  • PAN Card 
  • Mobile Number ( OTP will be comes on this number)
  • Email id 
  • Address 
  • Id proof ( aadhar)

After create an account on income tax portal.

๐Ÿ‘‰Step-3: Login on income tax portal through User Id and password.

You show this dashboard in your screen:




Go to the : e- file  then < Income tax returns> then < file income tax  return >

Go to : Select the 'assessment year'  and mode of filling ' online ' and then click on continue.

Then choose the status of assesses " individual"
and click on 'continue '.
After that: 



You have to choose the "ITR form -1" and continue. 
After that:

Click on 'Let's get started'.
After that:


Click on the following question answer according to our reason and proceed for "continue ".

๐Ÿ‘‰Step 4: Pre-filled Details Validate Karo
  • Income, TDS, employer ka naam etc. already filled hoga (26AS/AIS se)
  • Breakup check karo
  • Deductions (80C, 80D, etc.) add karo agar claim karni ho
  • Bank account validate karo (refund ke liye)
  • Fill your Income details (which you earned during the year)
๐Ÿ‘‰Step 5: Select Tax Regime
  • Old regime (jis mein deductions claim kar sakte ho)
  • New regime (jisme lower tax rates hain, but deductions nahi milti)
๐Ÿ‘‰Step 6: Preview & Submit
  • Sab details verify karo
  • "Preview Return" karo
  • "Submit" button par click karo.
๐Ÿ‘‰Step 7: E-Verify Your Return
  • Aapke return ko verify karna zaroori hai.
  • E-verify karne ke options:
  • Aadhaar OTP
  • Net banking
  • Demat account
  • Bank ATM
  • DSC (Digital Signature Certificate)
  • Aadhaar OTP sabse easy aur quick method hai.
